My name is Amy, and I’m so glad you’re here.

If you’re navigating gluten free or dairy free cooking — for yourself or someone you love — you’re in the right place.

When I went gluten free and dairy free in 2017 for health reasons, I changed much more than my diet; I transformed my life. Now, after discovering how to make my favorite foods and cook for a mixed GF / non-GF family, I’m excited to share what I’ve learned with you.

It is my hope that these recipes will bring you joy. I have found that it is possible to live with dietary restrictions and love your food!

I believe that food can bring us together. When we gather around delicious, nourishing food that all can share, we spread love and healing in the world.

At Mulberry & Thyme, you’ll find gluten free and dairy free recipes that are delicious enough to feed to your whole family (gluten free or not!) and beautiful enough to serve at your next gathering with gluten free guests. You’ll also find instructions that are clear and detailed enough for you to make the recipes with confidence, whether you are an expert or a beginner. Each recipe includes advice and brand recommendations to help you cook and bake for a variety of dietary restrictions, including gluten free, dairy free, and vegan.

The Mulberry & Thyme Reader

This blog is written for everyone navigating gluten and dairy free cooking and baking, whether for yourself or a loved one or guest. It is also for people who enjoy comforting, nourishing, and delicious home-cooked food and who enjoy bringing people together to share a meal that all can enjoy. Mulberry & Thyme focuses on gluten free baking, comfort foods made with healthier ingredients, and foods that bring people together — with a variety of dietary needs — for special gatherings, holidays, and seasonal celebrations.

The Mulberry & Thyme Goal

The Mulberry & Thyme goal is to make gluten and dairy free food that is so wonderful, everyone will looove it and not even think twice. This is totally possible, if you know what to do and what not to do.

No more parallel meals: one ‘regular’ dish and one sad GF alternative. 

We all deserve delicious, nourishing food!

What Makes Mulberry & Thyme Recipes Different

  • The Focus: When creating recipes, I start with my childhood and family favorites. Then I use whole foods and quality ingredients to make everything taste as flavorful and delicious as possible, while also providing the nourishment my family needs.
  • The Influences: My recipes are inspired by my upbringing and all the places I have been lucky enough to call home: the Midwest (where I get my love of casseroles, comfort foods, and a thrifty mindset), Texas (where I get my focus on beef-based dishes with Southern and Mexican flavors, plus even more love of comfort foods), and now California (where I picked up a farm-to-table focus on fresh produce, healthy ingredients, and a beautiful presentation).
  • The Equipment: I will only recommend a specialized tool when I truly think it’s worthwhile. Otherwise, my recipes are created using my favorite classic tools. For cooking, I use a knife, cutting board, cast iron skillet, and steel spatula. And for baking, I use my 1999 Kitchen Aid mixer, a whisk, and a wooden spoon.
  • The Brands: Mulberry & Thyme recipes share brand recommendations — not because brands have sponsored any of the posts (they haven’t) — but because the products you use will really make a big difference in your food’s final yumminess level. And I want you to love the food you make from this site!
  • The Exceptions: For those rare exceptions when it is hard to make something GF/DF in a way that is as truly excellent as the original, the recipe will give you a heads up. That way, if you really want to go all out for a special gathering, you can make both a GF and non-GF version.

The Mulberry & Thyme Philosophy on Food and Health

I’ve baked since I was a child, cooked since I was a mom, and been GF/DF for a decade. I’ve studied mental health, wellness, and food justice issues. After all of this, as well as much experimentation and thinking, this is what I’ve come to believe:

  • Food has the power to heal, and we all deserve food that nourishes and heals us.
  • Gathering to share food has the power to spread love and healing.
  • Cooking delicious, nourishing food is an act of love for self and others.

So, whenever you cook, bake, or gather people together to share food, be proud of yourself. Your caring act is creating joy and healing for yourself and others in the world!

Mulberry & Thyme is the creation of Amy Daniewicz — a home cook, baker, and long-time creator of gluten and dairy free recipes.

I’ve been writing professionally for over a decade, with work featured in publications including Popsugar, Hip Mama, and Apartment Therapy. I also ran my own lifestyle blog, where I shared recipes, essays on family life, and occasional style insights.

I started Mulberry & Thyme to share the recipes and techniques I’ve developed for cooking and baking gluten and dairy free, so that everyone — whether they follow a restricted diet or not — can enjoy delicious, nourishing food.
